After having previously attended a wake at the Sir John Falstaff two months ago, I knew it would be the perfect place for my mum’s wake. The buffet food was absolutely superb, a good selection enjoyed by all. The landlady and staff were lovely too and looked after us very well. I cannot thank you enough. Highly recommended.

Only had one draught beer, Fullers London Pride but we received a warm welcome and enjoyed a couple pints. Slightly noisy music playing inside. Big car park.

I had my brothers wake here. Landlady & staff were all very nice. The food was superb, homemade sausage rolls, quiches, samosas with a fabulous chilli sauce, sandwiches, chicken, enjoyed by all. We were well looked after. I would highly recommend. Thank you Sir John Falstaff, we will be back again.

One of the best pub Sunday roasts I’ve had. Plenty on the plate but not over filled, definitely enough and good quality, well cooked and such a friendly service. Get the extra gravy boat. Will have to come back for honey parsnips 🙂

We held a wake here for 70 people. Kim looked after us and was absolutely amazing from start to finish. We opted for the cold buffet, the food was incredibly tasty, with homemade sausage rolls, quiches and samosas, our guests enjoyed the food. Megan and Roxy were the barmaids for the night, and looked after us very well, friendly, polite and on the ball. Thank you all for taking care of everything, so we could give my cousin the send off he deserved.

I travelled down from Surrey for a wedding at stopped here for some lunch, The Staff are fabulous, lovely, and very friendly and the atmosphere was brilliant. The food was outstanding, I ordered the calamari rings and they where cooked to perfection by john the chef. 110% recommend this place to eat. On a bonus the beer is very well priced. Will definitely be coming back when I'm back down this way. Would 10 stars if I could..

As a Dickens lover. I was thrilled both by the warmth of the staff welcome and the magic of the place. The tenant and Daisy were very eager and happy to give me valuable information concerning Charles Dickens along with quite interesting details regarding some aspects of his private life. A moment never to be forgotten thanks to the friendliness of the staff. Thank you so much for this special moment in the Falstaff Pub. Ghouti. A French Dickens fan.

We really didn't want to go down this route as i'm an advocate for supporting local businesses but we been left with no option. We held an afternoon tea at the falstaff Saturday 21st June for nans 80th Birthday. We had seen an afternoon tea which had been held there previously and it looked amazing with a beautifully presented table with proper table cloths and bone china which gave us the idea to do it for nans birthday. We had pre-booked the event 9 months in advance but when we arrived you would assume we had booked it last minute. There were only 2 members of staff who were trying to run the bar, setting up for the afternoon tea as well as prepare the food as I believe the chef was unavailable. As there were only 2 staff members trying to do everything it meant that the table hadn't been laid, and when it did get laid it was paper roll table cloth. We had to ask a few times for missing cutlery when we began to eat, which we didn't receive, the plates and tea cups were dirty and the bar ran out of flavoured gin from the beginning. There wasn't enough food for the amount of guest that were there and there were several items on the menu provided to us that we didnt receive. We had also requested items for some guests with dietary requirements which we also didnt receive. We payed £25pp for 30 guests and spent alot over the bar, so it feels upsetting that the event didn't go as well as we would have planned especially as it had cost quite alot of money and been arranged so far in advance. We do really appreciate the effort the staff went to that day as they were really stretched as well as having to work cope with the hot weather so I don't want to put those staff down as they worked really hard, there just wasn't enough staff to cope with the demand of the day and no chef to properly prepare the menu. We have messaged the landlord Jay with our concerns and have arranged 3 times in the last 3 weeks to meet up with him personally to discuss this further but every time he says he will be there he then doesnt show up. Doesnt have the courtesy to text to say he won't be there or you will know he is upstairs but he just doesn't come down! This is why we have now result to posting this review. We were hoping to resolve this as we wanted to host another event there but after being let down, we will now unfortunately be looking to take our business else where. My dad Kevin has been texting Jay multiple times to arrange a meeting! He even sat in the pub for nearly 2 hrs Wednesday 9th July after pre arranging to meet and he never showed up even though the bar staff had said he was there and Kevin had text to say he was waiting at the bar. I even came in after work Friday to see if Jay was there, I was told he was unavailable for a few hours. I asked them to just tell Jay to text Kevin. All you had to do to resolve this was speak to Kevin like we have been trying to for 3 weeks!

The ladies serving were very sweet albeit too busy to offer a strong enough service. Our advice, have more staff for a fully booked evening, a chef that can cook steak and a better seafood supplier as they’re the smallest scallops we have ever seen. More options including vegetables to add to the meal would have been nice.
